Do you want to bring a domestic worker from outside the UK?
The government has introduced a visa route which will enable people to bring domestic workers to the UK for their private household. The workers include cleaners, chauffeurs, cooks, those providing personal care and nannies.
You can apply for this visa if you live outside the UK, are a domestic worker in a private household, have been working for your employer for at least one year and meet the basic eligibility requirements which are as follows:
-
- Should be 19 or over;
- Worked for minimum 1 year with employers;
- Worked in a same household as your employer;
- Intend to work as a full-time domestic worker;
- Plan to leave the UK at the end of 6 months; and
- Can support yourself in the UK without getting public funds.
The employer must be a British citizen who lives outside the UK and does not intend to remain in the UK for more than 6 months. You can also be a foreign citizen who is coming to the UK on a visit and does not intend to remain in the UK for more than 6 months.
We can assist you in making the application and bring your domestic helper to the UK if you’re struggling with it.
You can get a visa validity for up to 6 months and can work full-time with your employers.
The good thing is that being a domestic worker, you will have your own rights. Such as your employer will have to pay you an agreed rate (which would be the national minimum wage), you cannot be forced to work excessive hours, you will be given holiday pay and you will receive a notice confirming your employment at the end of your employment.
Nearer your visa’s expiry date, you can get in touch with me, and I will be able to assist you in extending your stay. But please bear in mind that to settle in the UK, it’s best to have an approved English language certificate just so it’s easier for you to settle in a country where you have a strong grasp on the national language.
The fee for this application is £531.
